Hankerin’, Yearning and Getting the Word Out

This is a guest post from our dear friend Robin Foutz. She has been instrumental in getting City Sing off the ground, and we are so encouraged by her. She is a gifted speaker and teacher, but more than that she LOVES Jesus. Enjoy!

Hey City Singers!

I have been amazed at all God is doing in the women in our city and how the Lord has brought together women who have a yearning for a movement of God. I’m not just talking about a hankerin’ for something like I sometimes have a hankerin’ for some ice cream. Nope. I’m talking about a yearning that comes from the deepest places of the heart, the kind of yearning that makes your stomach clench when you think about it. It wakes you up at night and brings you to your knees in prayer. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about… it’s that kind of yearning.

Women have been on their knees for days, months, and years praying for God to move! Guess what? The stage has been set through City Sing. I’m about to date myself, but I think back to the Field of Dreams movie quote, “If you build it, they will come.” Well, you and I are building it! We are creating an environment for women to come together with one heart, one mind, one goal… to lift up the name of Jesus! Doesn’t that excite you? It certainly excites me!

Now that we are “building” this thing together, what can each of us do to help get more ladies to be a part of this movement? Here are some ways I’d like to encourage you to get the City Sing word out:

1. Tell People
Easy peasy… Just tell people. I was sitting with a few women two weekends ago and I began to share a little bit about City Sing. I shared how women in our community are coming together and are praying together for an upcoming event on the 29th. Then the questions automatically came. These women wanted to learn more. This can happen anywhere! We just have to be willing to tell people. Let me encourage you to grab hold of this vision and tell people about City Sing! If you need some invitations, please let us know, we have plenty for you to hand out!
2. Use Social Media
Ya’ll… I don’t think there are too many people reading this who don’t have some sort of social media. We have made this so easy for you to put out there for your Facebook friends, your Instagram followers and your Tweeters on Twitter. Post the invitation to your feeds, add the video to your timeline, tweet about the event, and just keep getting the word out.
3. Tell the ladies in your Bible Studies and Home Groups
It only takes about three minutes to tell your group about what the event is, when it is and where it is and then hand out the invitations. I actually have a closed group on Facebook for the ladies who attend our church women’s Bible Study. I use that page to encourage them as well as to notify the ladies of upcoming events.  That might be a great way to get the word out to your groups! I also have an email list of all the ladies who have been to the Bible Studies. I will be sending out an email blast inviting them to City Sing.
4. Get your Church involved
One of the best ways to do this is to go to your pastor and share about City Sing. The other day I was sitting with my Pastor, telling him all about City Sing and how it has awakened something in me. Tears were rolling down my cheeks. He knew I was passionate about this. When your heart is invested in this people will catch the vision. Your pastor may allow you to share it from stage, to setup a table with invitations, and/or show the video on a Sunday morning.

Four ways to let others know about City Sing… those were easy, right? We can do this ladies and we need to do it together! I know you and I are yearning for God to move. I know there are many other women, who have not yet heard about City Sing; who have the same yearning as you and I do. Let’s let them know what God is putting together and invite them to come!

You may have a creative way you got the word out. Please post what you did to our One Thing Ministries Facebook page. We’d love to hear from you!

Thank you for being a part of this and for praying with us for this event.
